Renting a flat

Description

In this lesson, student will learn about ways how to rent a flat. Moreover, there will also learn some new vocabularies of rooms and things in a house which I will be present in the beginning of the lesson but will be clarify during the development of the lesson or CCQs. Student will complete some listening task and some group practice in the listening for Gist, details and specific information activity. The lesson will start with some visual images of things in a house followed by a pre-teach activity for student to complete. Then we will move on to the while reading activity for student to practice some listening for specific information to familiarize learners with the text. Student listen to an audio, will complete the missing word, filling the true/false in the sentences, before we move onto the post reading task where thee will have a lot more opportunity to practice.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their listening for Gist, spefic information and details comprehension when renting a flat.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide some listening activities for learners to be able to practice.

Procedure

T will divide de whole class into two groups and play a vocabulary competition game (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in to new vocabulary in the lesson.

T will place some visual images of the new vocabulary on the white board, then divide the whole class into two group (A/B) and ask them to select the right one that I will elicit.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will give the worksheet (1) hand out to the Ss and help them to complete the task of the Rent a flat dialogue.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Allow Ss to talk about the thing they could see in the rent a flat advert, then after, I will hand give them a worksheet hand out sheet (2) for them to complete the questions.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to Audio 5.5 to complete the listening exercise 3. after, they will tell if what they hear is true or false and discuses the reason why with their peers.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Student will be giving the opportunity to personalize the topic by asking they friends the questions that will be handed out to them. The will also giving the chance to switch partners to be able to interact more and practice they listening exercise.
