Description

In this lesson, Ss practice and apply the previously learned present simple questions and short answers in listening exercises. First, the Ss's existing knowledge will be activated and interest in the topic will be generated with a glimpse into the life of waiter and drama student Colin Brodie. Subsequently, Ss will do a detailed listening about his personal info and touch on a gist listening about Colin's friends and environment. Finally, the Ss will be given the opportunity to respond to the tasks and to practice orally.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and gist listening practice using a text about present simple questions and short answers in the context of a waiter & drama student (all in one) as well as his environment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of personal life and environment of a waiter & drama student

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will set the context with the help of some visuals & a picture of Colin > GistHint > Where is Colin? What does he do? >elicit with the help of theaters around the world from Ss (Theaters because Colin is a passionate drama-student). link to focus on: Colin Brodie

Pre-Reading/Listening (5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T pre-teaches/concept checks some words Ss might know: take from them with eliciting, silently if possible > theater > drama student > a person that studies theater > study, student, > part-time vs full time

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Now Colin! a) listen, what does Colin do? What's his job? Two! b) listening 5.7. > then HO (green): 4 possible answers (two right) in PW write down what's his job? c) check in PW, monitor > listen again? d) FB class, nominate

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

a) Now, listen for correct answer b) HO, red part, cross out or tick correct c) do an ex. on WB > check in pairs > WHICH part do you do now? Blue or red? RED! d) listen 2x e) FB on WB, 1-10 > in pairs write on Board; check on wrong answers

While-Reading/Listening (12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

a) listen & write: blue part b) 1 correct out of 3(!) > KeyQ > WHERE is COLIN..school, restaurant, football? c) 1 correct out of 3 > KeyQ > Who is that? Colin, customers d) listen all 2nd time e) Paircheck f) FB: WB nominate

Post-Listening (6 minutes) • to provide Ss with a possibility to respond to the previous listening in their personal context

Writing & speaking post-listening exercise: Every Ss writes down 4 questions for him/herself (work alone, no pairs) - when u have it: Final round with everyone (last lesson) > go and ask as many questions to anyone as possible and talk as freely as possible
