Description

In this lesson, students learn about Present Simple + (I/you/we/they) using guided discovery. The context continues the theme of celebrity/fame from the previous class, followed by a reading task and several written tasks.

Procedure

Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set the context of the lesson and engage students.

T will show a drawing of "Amy the actress" and elicit who they think she is.

Gist reading (2-3 minutes) • To provide the context of present simple using the text about "Amy the actress"

Learners are handed the sheet of text of Amy talking about her daily routine and asked to decide if it is about what happened in the past, will happen in the future, or what happens every day.

Detailed reading (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with a more detailed reading task.

Ss to read more closely about the daily routine of Amy and then answer the A or B questions below to check they understood. Followed by ans sheet and CCQs: Does she go to the gym for two hours every day? (yes) Does she like the other actors? (no) Does she live in a small house? (no) Does she leave home at 6.30? (yes) Model sentences: I leave home at 6:30 every morning They are lazy She doesn't live in a small house

Introduction to questions (8-10 minutes) • Pre-introduction to questions about their daily routine.

T writes the following on the WB: "....5am" "....1am" "....London "....6am" "....Pizza" "....6pm" Elicits the phrases through PW: "You wake up at 5am" (write as "I wake up...") "You go to bed at 1am" "You live in London" "You have breakfast at 6am" "You like pizza" "You get home at 6pm." T asks pairs to offer their answers to WC.

Questions on routine (6-8 minutes) • To elicit question forms about routine

Using the previous phrases, elicit questions you might ask to get these answers: "What time/when do you wake up?" "I wake up at 5am." (write as "I wake up...") "What time/when do you go to bed?" "I go to bed at 1am." "Where do you live?" "I live in London." "What time/when do you have breakfast?" "I have breakfast at 6am." "What food do you like?" "I like pizza." "When do you get home?" "I get home at 6pm."

Writing task (6-8 minutes) • To encourage students to form Simple Present + I sentences.

Students to write about their own daily routine using the words/phrases: “get up”, “go to bed”, “have breakfast”, “get home”, “live”, “like”.

Practice Qs and As (5-5 minutes) • To give students to opportunity to try Q&A dialogue

Task D on handout to be completed in pairs. This is followed by calling on a few pairs to give a Q&A example.

Rearrange sentences (5-8 minutes) • To give practice of forming questions

Ask students to complete question E on HO. Answers given on ans sheet.
