Description

In this lesson Ss will use Useful Phrases in functional language practice

Materials

Main Aims

  • Phrases: To clarify and practice functional language for useful phrases in conversations between people making plans

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking: To practice speaking conversations with useful phrases in daily speech and planning

Procedure

Lead-In (4-5 minutes) • To warm up students and get them talking and energized

Before class T will put up photos from Lead-In Photos material on the WB. Ask the students if they like watching movies. Have a quick dialogue with students about the photos on the WB. (Can you guess my favorite movies?) Ask questions to Ss relating to topic (What are your favorite movies?)

Reading / Listening Task (18-20 minutes) • To practice reading and listening for gist and introduce the target language

Give Ss ~5 min to look over the dialogue to familiar themselves with the conversations. When the time finishes divide the class into 6 (Six) groups of 4 (four) Ss. Have the Ss listen to the audio of Useful Phrases Conversations Audio. Go over the pronunciation of specific phrases. Assign pairs and allow student to practice the full conversation among themselves.

Highlighting Target Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight the target language so the learners are focused on it

HO Question 2. Have them work in 6 (Six) groups of 4 (Four) to find the answers. Ss have tendencies to speak off-topic in their mother tongue during GW. Monitor for this and revert them to English. Ask them why they think their answers are correct. Practice the Question 2 Audio for pronunciation. Have Ss drill the listening exercise.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To have Ss do freer practice

Have students work on Question 4 HO in Pairs. First, to write a conversation in pairs. Second, to have them practice speaking the conversations they wrote with other pairs. Monitor both while their writing (for writing mistakes) and speaking (for pronunciation mistakes).
