Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of simple present information questions in the context of free time

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher (T) shows pic of some people while doing some leisure activities & asks: "what is it?" and "what are they doing?", Ss say some words like: "play", "ball", "eat", "happy" and etc.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T says: "when do you do them? Ss say: "Fridays, summer or free time", if they couldn't, T says: "in your free time". T drills the word with the Ss and asks them to talk about what they usually do in their free time with their partners.

Clarification (10-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1. T presents and practices free time vocabulary. 2. T shows the first pic and asks: "What does it show?", Ss say: "eat". T focuses on the stress by tapping her foot or saying the stressed syllable louder and asks the Ss to do it with her. T sticks the pic on the Wall. 3. T elicits and practices all the words in the same way. 4. T gives some flash cards with the written form of the words to the Ss and asks them to match and stick the words with the pics. 5. T asks some questions with "how often" to clarify the meaning of it.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss listen to a conversation and complete the survey again according to the listening. they check their answers together and T gives a WCF.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T gives some pieces of paper with information question words and some with their answers and asks them to match the papers with their partners. WCF

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives some pieces of paper to the ss and asks them to put them in order with their partners. T asks all the pairs to check their answers together. Check with the book. T writes this model on the board and ask the ss to write 3 questions for the underlined parts with their groups. I go to the movies with my friends twice a month. T monitors and helps the groups. T changes the sentence with "he" and asks the ss to do the same. FB on the board. T writes the form on the board.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T practices part C on page 45 as a free practice. Gallery writing if any time! T sticks ss' surveys around the wall and asks the ss to move around and guess whose weekends they are. WCF

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss practice part B on page 45. T monitors and corrects.
