TP.7 Radwa Hassan . useful phrases
Elementary level


In this lesson , Ss will learn about Suggestion and complaints by different exercises . First T give Ss a warmer activity to refresh their mind , then some activities followed by listening and repeating some small sentences . By the end of the lesson , they will be able to have conversations with their partners/ in groups using suggestion phrases as a free practice .


Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for suggestion and complaining in the context of alone

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about complaints and suggestion in the context of alone


Warmer (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1)T tell Ss that "today's lesson is useful phrases or functional language" , their task now to guess these useful phrases about what " asking , invitation , job interview , ...." something like that 2)T tell the Ss that he is going to show them a video , they should watch carefully , then think alone for few seconds , then everyone check with his partner , every group give T the idea about kind of useful phrases . 3)Finally T give them the right answer which is "complaints and suggestion " .

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1) T give Ss a paper containing an EX. which is consisted of 4 short dialogue and 4 pictures , what is required is matching them with each other . 2) T tell Ss to look at the paper they took , then read it quickly and listen to the conversation , finally match every picture with it's convenient dialogue . 3) T ask Ss " now are you going to match firstly or read ? , then what are you going to do ? match or listen ? . work in group , if they are just two students "work together " .

Teach (5-7 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1)T gives a paper which contains some useful phrases to Ss and then tell them " now we're going to listen to the audio with looking at the useful phrases in this paper then repeat " , so; look at the paper & listen and repeat . 2)While Ss are listening to the audio , T write the useful phrases on the whiteboard dividing them into two groups " complaints " and "suggestion " .

Test #2 (6-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1) T tell Ss , after you listened to these different useful phrases , and you know each type of it . keep the last paper in you hand , I will give you and EX. to answer using this paper . 2)After T give the EX. to Ss , tell them " here you will complete the conversations with the useful phrases . work in group or together . 3)T let Ss check answer by listening to the track .

Free practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1) T ask Ss to come back to the first exercise which contains dialogues and pictures . 2) T give Ss EX.4 and ask the to use the first complaint making a dialogue like that in the first EX. work together . 3) T ask every group to read the conversation loudly .
