Description

In this lesson, students improve their fluency skills through speaking in the context of unhealth foods. The lesson starts with showing visuals of unhealthy foods and discussing about the topic of the lesson. This is followed by pre-speaking activity that they will talk about food with their partners. Next, there will be controlled practice. Students will do their own fast-food survey. This is followed by another speaking activity they will rank of their favorite kinds of food. Final activity is freer speaking practice, group role play

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead in (4 minutes) • To introduce the lesson and make the context of the lesson interesting for the SS

-Ask the students what are their favorite foods and then show them fast food and junk food and fast food restaurants visuals to talk about them. Get their ideas what do they think about unhealth food? Make them a list of unhealthy food and write their ideas on the WB. Also ask them Do people eat unhealhy food a lot in Turkey?

Pre-speaking (9 minutes) • to prepare the students for the context of the lesson and make it much more understandable through teaching unfamiliar vocab

-Elicit the vocabulary 'junk food, fast food and beverages showing pictures. -Tell them that they are going to answer a couple of questions about their eating habits. They are going to work in pairs. -Give them 5 minutes ask and answer the given questions with their partners. -when they finish, ask them what they learned about their partners.

While-Speaking (controlled practice) (10 minutes) • To provide a controlled speaking practice and new vocabulary

-Before the students start the activity, MFP 'fried food, baby food, packaged food, airplane food, slow food. -The students are going to talk about the kinds of food. Tell them to give a score from 6 to 1. Also they need to explain e.g. 'I love fast food because, fast food is yummy' or 'I never eat junk food becuse It is unhealthy. Ask ICQ -Make them work in pairs. -When they finish, take WC FB

Post-speaking (12 minutes) • to practice target productive skills

-Change partners -The students are going to write 5 questions about fast food in the table. Each students must write the questions his/her own paper. Do demo and ask ICQ 'how many questions are we writing?, Are we asking these questions to our partners? -When they've finished, they are going to interview other students and write down their answers. They must interview at least 2 students. -After interviewing, they are going to return their orginial partner and share and talk about what they found out. -Ask several partners to make mini-presentations to other groups on their findings.

Freer speaking practice (Role play) (7 minutes) • To provide free speaking practice (after aims completed)

-Elicit that 'what does a waiter say when we go to a restaurant? They are supoosed to say What would you like to eat or drink?' and write this on the WB. Also ask what would be thier answer. They are supposed to say 'I would like to eat/drink ...' -Then tell them that in groups of three or two, they are going to create a 'Favorite Foods Menu'. It can be a fast food restaurant menu.They are going to create a role play, ordering food and drink at a resturant. The menu must incude everyone's favorite food and drink. -When they are ready, they are going to present their role play to other groups.

Delayed error-correction (3 minutes) • to provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-If there is still time, do error correction -Take some notes throughout the lesson and write some examples of students' errors on the WB. Make the students correct their errors.
