Description

In this lesson students learn lexis related to films, books and music that help them express their opinions. also will be given the opportunity to practice the target language in both controlled practice and free practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of lexis related to films,books and music in the context of opinions

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about conversations about films, books and music in the context of opinions
  • To provide detailed listening practice using a text about conversations about films, books and music in the context of opinions
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of opinions

Procedure

lead in (2-4 minutes) • to activate the students' background and introduce them to the context of the lesson and to involve them in the presentation of the lesson

after greeting the students start having a conversation with them about their preferences in terms of books, films and music, whether they prefer books(novel) or films and what types of films, books and music they prefer

exposure (3-5 minutes) • to present students to the lexis (target language) in both spoken form and written form

provide the students with handouts of 7 written conversation and the audio for these conversation ask the students to listen to the audio while reading the conversations in order to decide whether a conversation is about a film, book or music demonstrate the first conversation to further clarify the instructions and use ICQs if needed "you are going to listen to 7 different conversations about films, books and music and you are going to decide whether a conversation is about a film, book or music" then check answers in pairs and then provide feedback

highlight target language (1-3 minutes) • in order to focus the students' attention on the target language(lexis)

using the handout that they have already read i ask students to underline words, verbs and expressions that helped them answer the previous exercise and start eliciting the lexis from them and i would help them find other words or expressions if they didn't underline them

clarification (5-8 minutes) • to clarify the meaning , form and phonology of the target language (lexis)

After the students highlight the target language i show them pictures using the OHP and with each picture i elicit one of the lexis in order to clarify the meaning and also using CCQs to check their understanding use drilling chorally and individually to clarify and practise the pronunciation

controlled exercise (2-4 minutes) • to give the students the opportunity to practice target language and to check their understanding

give the students an exercise (complete the sentences) ask the students to complete the sentences using the words and expressions in the box ask them to check their answers in pairs and then provide feedback

free practice (5-6 minutes) • to provide a practice of fluency speaking in a conversation about preferred films,books and music

ask the students to think about their favorite films , books and music then work in pairs and express their opinions about their favorite film, book or music and then provide feedback by asking the students to report back to me
