Description

In this lesson, students learn about some verb patterns, "verb+ ing-form", "verb + to-infinitive", "verb + that", "verb + sb + (not) to-infinitive" and "verb + sb + that". Students also learn some new vocabulary which are adjectives that can be often used when talking about celebrities and photography.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of celebrities and photography.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Ask students if they like celebrities and what they think about interfering in their personal life and photographing their personal moments.

Test #1 (2-4 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- Ask Ss to complete the sentences using the verbs in the box. - Ask Ss to check their answers in pairs. - Monitor and provide help if needed. - Check the answers as a whole class.

Teach (6-8 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

- Write 5 sentences on the board and elicit the meaning and form from the students. "I can't stand waiting around." "She's promised to come." "We explained that it was hard." "He asked me to wait." "They told us that they need time." - Drill the sentences chorally and individually. - Focus the students' attention on the table in Exercise 2 and explain that sb is short for somebody. - Ask Ss to complete the table with the verbs in the box in Exercise 1. - Go around and monitoring. - Ask them to check their answers in pairs. - Check answers as a whole class.

Test #2 (5-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

- Go through the first example in Exercise 3 with the class and make sure everyone is clear that in each sentence two of the verbs are correct and one is not. - Ask Ss to check their answers in pairs. -Check the answer as a whole class. - Ask Ss to discuss in pairs who they think made each statement: a paparazzo or a celebrity. - Check their answers as a whole class.

- Ask Ss to match each adjective with its suitable definition. - Ask Ss to check their answers in pairs. - Check answers as a whole class.

- Ask Ss to discuss in pairs whether any of the sentences in Exercise 1 are true for them. - Go around and monitoring. - Give feedback.
