Description

In this lesson, students will be practicing their speaking skills by discussing some topics in the context of scientific myths and facts. By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to talk and come up with ideas of the the same context.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets ss -T projects two sentences which are common false statements and ask Ss if they're true or not. -T tries to hear from everybody in order to engage them.

Preparation to speak (6-8 minutes) • To provide ideas to speak about

-T distributes HO and projects the first task's question With a partner discuss the statements below. (ICQs) Are you going to work alone? -T monitors and ready to give help when needed -T gets some feedback but doesn't tell if Ss are right or wrong

listening for specific information (6-10 minutes) • To provide more information about the topic

-T asks Ss to listen Listen to a scientist on a radio program discussing each statement. Were you right? -When Ss finish their listening, T gets some feedback -T then teaches some words taken from the listening track -T projects the answer key -Next, T projects the next question With a partner, see if you can remember any of the explanations the scientist gave. -T monitors and ready for help

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking skills

-T projects the next question with a partner Interview each other using the given questions. (ICQs) Are you both going to interview or just one? Are you using other question than the ones in the paper? -T monitors and ready for help and notes some errors if there are any -When Ss are done , T gets some feedback of some questions

Error Correction (2-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T writes some mistakes he noted on the WB -T elicits the correct answers -T asks some CCQs to test Ss' knowledge

Productive task #2 Freer practice (If time allows) (5-8 minutes) • For learners to practice their oral fluency in relation to the context

-T asks Ss to pick one paper, invent one myth and write it down -When Ss write their sentence T asks them to fold it and then picks them up and puts them in a cup. -T mingles the papers up and asks each S to pick one paper. -Then T teacher gives instructions Stand up and start reading out the sentence in your paper to each to find who wrote it. -When Ss start asking each other, T notes some errors while monitoring -T then gets some feedback
