Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of 'be going to' in the context of honeymoon plans.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice for fluency within a conversation in the context of holiday plans.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T hangs the picture of a couple on the WB and asks Ss some questions. T lets Ss set the context with their own replies. What's her name? What's his name? Are they friends? Do they love each other? Are they happy? When did they start dating? Are they married? [No] Are they planning to get married? [Yes] When? Are they planning to go on honeymoon? (T elicits the meaning of honeymoon)

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Yes, they're going to go on honeymoon. T asks where the couple is planning to go and elicits "Madrid" , "London" and "Paris". Then, T hangs the pictures of Madrid, London and Paris to the WB. "This is their holiday plan and you have 2 minutes to fill the boxes in pairs. Don't write long sentences. Just short answers". T hands the HO1 to Ss and gives an example of a short answer "visit Big Ben". ICQs; "Are you going to work alone or in paris?" "Will you write long sentences or short answers?" Then, T gets some answers from Ss by asking "What are they planning to do on Monday morning?"

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

"They're going to go on honeymoon." T writes on the WB. CCQs for meaning check; "Is it happening now?" [No] "Is it just a plan?" [Yes] "Is it going to happen in the future?" [Yes] T elicits negative and question forms. "Are they going to go on honeymoon?" (Y/N question) Yes, they are. / No, they aren't. "What are they going to do?" (wh- question) Subj + be + going to + verb After that, T drills the pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

"Now let's check their plan. You have 2 minutes to fill the blanks alone". T hands HO2. Peer check and Ss nominate each other for answers. Then T gives HO2 AK.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Regrouping. Ss make be going to sentences with their own replies on HO1 in pairs. Then a WC FB.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
