Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn about there is, there are and how many, the lesson starts with showing some pictures to the students of the famous Topkapi Palace in Istanbul and ask them to tell me what's inside the Palace if they can. then i will play a recording where they have to pay attention and listen to there is, there are and how many. This is followed by giving the Ss a GD HO and they need to go through. Then will do a control practice and then a semi control practice. Ss will be practicing the TL in the freer activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will project some pictures on the board of the famous Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, and ask the Ss about it using the TL, for example : how many rooms are there ? is there a play ground? are there any public bathrooms ?

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will be listening to a recording, i will ask the students to listen carefully and pay attention to there is and there are and what comes after them ( singular noun/plural noun) after that I will give the GD HO to the students and have them go through, after they finish i will ask them to check with their partner. i will take the following marker sentences from the context 1,there is a tennis court: MEANING : i will be asking CCQ's can i use "there is" for two tennis courts ? they will say no can i use "a tennis court" or "tennis courts" after there is ? they will say a tennis court . I will ask why? i will write the second sentence on the board: there are three kitchens : MEANING : i will be asking CCQ's can i use there are for one kitchen? they will say no can i use "a kitchen" or "three kitchens" after there are ? they will say three. I i wll ask why? can i use there is for plural nouns ( many things) can i use there are for singular nouns (one thing) i will make the Ss drill the two sentences, i will elicit the contraction from the students ( there's and there're) Following that, i will show them a bottle of water and ask them : what is this ? they will say a bottle of water what's inside? they will say water i will ask, can we count the water, do you think it's countable ? they will say no ,i will ask: can i say there's one water inside the bottle or two waters or three waters.. etc then i will write the from of There's= /ðeəz/ , There're=/ðərə/ and drill them i will give the answer key to the students. then i will write on the board the "?" and the negative sign and try to elicit the question and negative form from the students for the next stages

Controlled-practice • (3-5 minutes) • Ss focus on producing the written form of TL for accuracy

i will give the students another HO, and they will have to make sentences about the white house using there is/there are, in both affirmative and negative from, before that i will give them clear instructions and ask ICQ's i will do one or two examples with them, then give them the HO after they finish i will have them peer check their answers together. i will nominate some SS to give me few answers then i will give the answer key

semi controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • Ss focus on producing the spoken form of the TL and practicing their accuracy.

following the previous stage ,Ss will be making question using is there a / are there any, then i will nominate two or three students to give me few answers, then they will be working in pairs, asking and answering the questions they made . i will give them some time to practice, i will be monitoring a bit closely for error correction teacher ask Ss for feedback

semi Controlled Practice #2 (5-7 minutes) • Ss will be using "How many" to form question using there are

i will write on the board "How many" and try to Elicit the question form from the students. then i will give them another activity where they have to make questions using how many and are there before i give them the HO i will regroup the students for different partner after they finish i will give the answer key

Free Practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be drawing a plan of their houses, prepare a short presentation of their homes, they will be using the words from the lesson i will do a demo here . students will be working in groups
