Description

In this lesson, students are going to practice the 'causatives' in the context of services. They will be presented by some pictures and some questions. They will listen to an advertisment and will be introduced to the target language. They also do a guided discovery in the clarification stage. They will have speaking practice to produce the target language at the end.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

+I’ll start the class with the greetings and group them +I’ll show some pictures on the board Ss will discuss three questions in their groups HO1 : Instruction: “ discuss these questions with your partner” “Where do you get your hair cut?” “When you go to a hair salon or barber shop, do you leave with a product or a service? Do you usually fix your own car or motorcycle or you ask a mechanic to fix them? WCFB I’ll show another picture and tell them that these are nine services that people commonly offer I’ll ask two questions: Why would someone need these services? Have you ever used any of them? Ss will talk in their groups WCFB

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening

+Ss will listen to an advertisement and then they will talk about some questions in their groups. +I’ll get their attention and play the audio file +I’ll show questions on the board: Would you use a service like this? What services do you need or want? What questions would you ask Hazel? Ss will discuss their ideas and answers in their groups FB: I’ll ask some ideas from each group

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'll mark three sentences from the listening on the board: - I Get my apartment cleaned - I have my car washed

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

+ I will give Ss the Guided Discovery HO. The HO2 has got three different parts( Meaning, Function and Form of the TL) on it + I will instruct the Ss to fold the HO2 in the way that they can only see the Meaning part which consists of different questions without answers for helping them to get the concept by checking their guesses. + I'll set a time limit + Ss will work in pairs and try to answer the questions with their partners + WCFB ( If they are good at it, I'll give them the answer key at the end so as to focus on the practice part) + I'll ask if they have any problem and then tell them to unfold the paper and work on the function part + I'll do WCFB and then Ss should try to complete the forms with their partners + Then I'll give them answer key + I'll go for drilling marker sentences on the board

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

+ I will provide them with a semi-controlled practice activity. + Instruction: "Rewrite the statements as questions with where can I get/have.... and answer them with the information in parentheses " + ICQs(if needed) Are you going to write questions or just answers?[both] + I'll provide them with HO3 + Ss will check their answers in pairs + I'll provide them with an answer key

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

+ I'll provide Ss with HO4 and they will talk about it in their groups + Instruction: "Read these comments made by 'parents' and tell your partner why do you think they feel this way?" + Ss will share their ideas together + WCFB + Then I will group them again and they will do another exercise + Instruction: "now put yourself in the children's shoes, one of you is the daughter and the other is the son. discuss the parents' decisions" + Then I'll give them a model to practice "A: Why do you think mom and dad won't let me get my pierced? B: They probably think you're too young A: That's crazy! my friend got her ears pierced when she was 10. it's not a big deal. + I'll ask them to take a vote: " Do you agree with the parents or the children? why? + I'll take some notes from their problems while they are talking, then I will do a delayed error correction.
