To provide specific information listening practice using a text about years, decades and centuries in the context of life
Procedure (17-30 minutes)
Ask the students: '' If you have the chance to live in another time, Which time will you choose?''. Make a discussion, make sure that they use a century or a decade.
Now, ask the students to listen to a track and circle the correct year, let them work in pairs to check their answers. After that, write some dates on the board, say them once and let them repeat, then let them elicit the stresses. Let them repeat the dates to be more confident.
According to Ex.2, put some cards, on the board, written with words '' popular, emperor, revolution,landing,war,hit single''. Ask the students : '' What does x mean?'', let them guess the meanings of the words, then elicit them. Then, ask them to listen to a track , during listening ask them to work in pairs to complete the sentences from the box and check answers. Monitor them to lock for mistakes, then give them feedback.
Now, write an example from ex.3 on the board to show the students how to re-write the dates like: 1970-1979 ... nineteen-seventies. let them work in pairs and do like the example. Monitor them and give feedback.
Ask the students to write five sentences about famous people in their country, encourage the students to use at least one example of a decade and one of a century , let them work in pairs. After that, put them in new pairs to tell each other about the dates that they have chosen. Monitor them and correct if they need.
