Description

In this Lesson, Students will continue learning in the context of eating and drinking. They will learn about " There is " and " There are" and how to use them to express singular and plural . They will also learn how to link the pronunciation of the final consonant sound and the following vowel.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of "There is" and "There are" in the context of eating and drinking

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice and pronunciation using text about "There is" and "There are" in the context of eating and drinking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the students the picture on page 52. Ask the students "What do we have in this pictures?"

Test #1 Listening (4-6 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Tell the students they will listen to a record and answer whether the sentences are true or false. Ask them to take notes. (write True od False) Play the record and pause when necessary. Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. Give the students the feedback.

Teach Grammar and pronunciation (6-8 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

1- Grammar: Let the students focus on the Grammar square Elcit the answer from them. Highlight the meaning of "There is" (for singular and uncountable) and "There are" (for plural countable) Elcit the negative form from the student 2- Pronunciation: Put 2 examples from the recording on board Play the record and put a mark on the linking syllables Drill the sentences with the students

Test #2 exercise (3-5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ask the students to look at the example. Ask them to apply these sentences to the centre and say if it's true to them or not. Let Them work individually Check in pairs. Give the feed back.

Free practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Focus the students' attention on the picture P52 Ask students to write 5 true sentences and 4 false sentences about the picture. Monitor and give help. Let them put the picture down.. Tell them the game rules (Memory games) Students work in pairs ; student 1 will say his sentence and student 2 will say if it is true or false. Monitor and note the errors. Give a feed back and the winner who will guess right the most

IF-Time activity • To provide students with free practice applied to their place

Ask the students to work in pairs and make three sentences about the lab we are in using "There is " and "There are". Monitor them while working. Give the feed back.
