Description

In this lesson the students are going to deal with a listening lesson in the context of Eating and drinking(Breakfasts around the world), listen to five people talking about their breakfast and write down what they have. then the Ss are going to speak about their breakfasts. Finally, the Ss are going to write a paragraph about their normal breakfast,lunch and dinner.

Materials

Abc handout pictures, flash cards,listening audio , realia New- cutting- edge elementary p.g 53

Main Aims

  • To give the Ss practice in listening for gist and for specific information by answering questions in the context of Eating and drinking[ Breakfasts around the world].

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. To help the Ss listen to five people talking about their breakfast. 2. To help the Ss write down what those people have for breakfast. 3.To encourage the Ss to speak freely about their breakfast. 4.To help the Ss write four sentences about their normal breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-0 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Ask the Ss" What did you have for breakfast today?" -" what is the best and worst breakfast you have ever had?" Note:- To activate schemata and to personalise the context. -Please note that this stage and the next will also serve as a pre- listening stage.

Pre-Listening (2-0 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Tell the Ss to look at the photos and ask : what do you think he\ she\ they have for breakfast?

Clarification (3 minutes) • To pre teach some vocabulary they will encounter in the listening audio to make it more accessible.

- Introduce \ check words : glasses, tropical fruit, hot\ spicy food, lemon, omelette, Mango, Guava, Kim-chi, Tortilla on board ( introduced by flash cards, pictures and realia ). - Meaning and form are introduced in the language analysis paper.

While-Listening #1 (10-0 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Tell the Ss that they are going to listen to five people talking about their breakfast. -Tell the Ss to write down what each person -in the recording -has for breakfast. - Play the first part and elicit the answers. - Play the remainder of the recording stopping after each part. - Allow Ss to write the words. -Check in pairs. - Circulate and monitor . - Get feedback .

Post-/Listening (4-0 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Tell the Ss about my breakfast: ( I always have breakfast at home, I usually have a glass of Nescafe with milk, I never drink tea . -( tell the Ss to answer Q a 2 in the same way). -Ask Ss to discuss questions Q b& c in ex 2 p.g 53 in pairs. - circulate and monitor. -Get feedback.

Free Practice (9 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Ask the Ss to write about their normal breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks ex 3 p.g 53 (individually). - Monitor and help . - Get feedback.
