Description

In this lesson, students will practice the skill of reading through the context of newspaper' headlines of various topics. This is followed by a controlled-practice in which students need to read the underlined words (from the headlines) to phrases that have the same meanings. Finally, students will listen to short radio news then match them with the right headlines. They will be given headlines to help them out writing radio news accordingly—based on what the have listened to.After writing they will broadcast their news to the rest of the class.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T Show Ss real newspaper and ask them : -What is this? -Do you like reading newspaper? -Do you read it daily, weekly or online? -What kinds of headlines do you read?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T Gives Ss an exercise and ask them to match the under lined words with their -meanings -T Monitor and give help -Let Ss check in pairs -T Gives Ss feed back

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T Asks Ss to look at the photos and read the headlines, then asks them to match each photo with an appropriate newspaper headline. -T Monitors and gives help if needed -T Lets Ss to check answers in pairs. -Teacher gives them the feed back

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-T asks Ss to read the headlines again, then find an underlined headline word that has the same meaning from the phrases in exercise 2 . -T Monitors and gives help if needed . -T Lets Ss to check answers in pairs. -Teacher gives them the feedback.

While-Reading/Listening #3 • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T tells Ss that they will listen to a radio broadcast which covers the same newspaper headlines in ex 1 -T asks Ss to listen and match the news items to the headlines. -T plays the records more than one time if needed. -T Lets Ss to check answers in pairs. -Teacher gives them the feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs t asks Ss to choose one of the headlines in ex 4 and write a radio news story based on this headline T go around giving hlep where needed
