In this lesson the students will learn about infinitive of purpose ( to + base verb), the context of Troubleshoot a problem. Students will have the chance to practice their listening skills through a conversation model.

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First: Greet the students . Next: to set the lesson context ; Yesterday, I was doing some work on my computer, after I had finished, I wanted to print the document. So I clicked on print button to print, however, it did not print out the page. So I phoned my friend to ask for help. She said " refresh your computer to get rid of old commands and then click on printer to print the page. Then I wanted to save my work, so I clicked on save button to save the file. CCQ: Why did I phone my friend? ( to ask for help) Why did my friend aske me to refresh my computer? ( To get rid of old commands) Why did I click on print button?( to print my document) Why did I click on save button? ( to save my work)

Pre-Reading and Listening (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Pair the students : Ask the Ss to look at page 100, and the picture: Where are they ? are they at home or at work? what might they be talking about?( discuss it with your pair) _________________________________________________________________ Next ask the students : If you have a problem withy your computer , what would you do? and why? Elicit few answers from the students.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask the Ss to look at page 100 : Troubleshoot ; analyse and solve serious problems for a company or other organization. Inform the students that they are going to read and listen to a short conversation between two people at work : what is the problem ? play the audio . Elicit the answer fro the students ( Her computer crashed) __________________________________________________________________________Next : Ask the students to read the text . What advice was given to solve the problem ? ( Re- start the computer)

Clarification , meaning and form • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

On the WB, write : I phoned my friend to ask for help . ( the infinitive of purpose is to ask) Why did you phone your friend. because I needed help. __________________________________________________________________________ I worked all summer to save money. I worked all summer , because I wanted to save money. To + base = infinitive : expresses the purpose and answers then question why . _______________________________________________________________________ NEXT : Ask the students to look at page 101- Grammar to further their understanding about the target language

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ask the students to look at the diagram on page 100; Elicit the meaning of the commands . Students to give example , for all the commands . ___________________________________________________________________________Listening : ask the students to look at page 100 exB. You are going to listen to 6 conversations ; click on the command that each person needs to follow. Play the audio , each command at a time. ( check the answers with students)

Post-Reading/Listening (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask students to complete Grammar practice page 101 . first work on your own and then compare your answer with your classmate. Finally : ask students to look at Cathy's to do list page 101; In pairs ask and answer the questions using infinitive of purpose.
