Description

In this lesson, the students will start off learning some vocabulary in the context of time and money. Then they move on to a listening skill activity where they have to listen and participate in the activities provided.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about time is money in the context of time and money

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of time and money.
  • To provide clarification and practice of time in the english language in the context of time and money

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will put the students into 5 groups by nominating each students with the numbers 1,2,3,4 or 5. T will then give out a different picture to each group T will ask the students to write in the speech bubble, working as a group, what they think the person in the picture is thinking or saying. Once the students have finished, T will ask one students from each group to share what they have written in the speech bubble.

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will pair up the students and show a hand out. T will ask students to work in pairs and match the phrases to the pictures on the handout. Once the students have finished, T will nominate 5 students to write the answers on the board. T will then ask the questions; and have them discuss with the groups they are sitting with. - What do you spend too much time / waste time doing? - What saves you time in the morning? T will nominate few students to share their answers. T will then pre-teach the words, currency, spare time, convert and connected to prepare students for the listening task.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will have the students to listen to the audio individually. T will then play the audio again and ask the students to take some notes down while listening. Once the audio is finished the teacher will hand out a paper that writes "Time is.." to each group. The students will work in groups to complete the sentences about what time is according to what they understood from the audio. T will then collect all the papers and swap them with other groups to share each groups idea of what time is.

While-Listening #2 (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

T will hand out another activity to the students. Students will be asked to match the two halves of the sentences. T will ask the students to listen to the audio again and match the sentences. Students will check their answers with their partners. Once they have finished, T will play the answer key, and students will check their answers by listening.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will group the students and have them discuss in their groups if they have any similar expressions for time in their own language. Encourage the students to explain themselves using the target language and speaking in English. T will then nominate from each groups to share if they have any similar expressions in their own language.
