In this lesson,students learn about 'previewing and predicting' reading a text about 'Names in Business' and they will be learning new vocabularies and something real from the past.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about The importance of names in business in the context of Cars and the derivation of brands'

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of significance of names in Business.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss some questions to warm them up

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Explain SS what 'previewing and predicting'are Give SS some information why 'previewing and predicting'are important. Ask SS to do exercise A on page 54.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask SS to read the text by scanning Ask SS to speak a little bit about the main idea of reading Ask SS to try to find the answers of the questions' in the margin

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ask SS to do exercises on page 58 to be sure whether they would get the text or not. Let SS scan the text again if necessary. Ask SS to finish all the exercises on page 58.and 59. Do some vocabulary exercises related to the text Give a short explanation about word groups. Ask SS to do exercises on page 60.and 61. Give some examples with 'paraphrasing'. Ask SS to paraphrase the given sentences extracted from the text.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ask SS to talk about the importance of names in business using the information given in the text. Ask some questions so as to be sure about they get the tex or not. Let SS state their opinions in what extend they believe the miracles of names.
