Description

In this lesson, students will learn vocabulary about crimes and criminals and their usage in the sentences.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of criminal lexis in the context of crime and punishment
  • To provide clarification, review and practice of crime-related lexis in the context of crime

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of crimes and criminals

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will want students to fill each box of the text 1 individually. The teacher gives them two minutes to have the text completed. ICQ : Are you going to answer the text alone or in pairs? (Alone) If students struggle to fill the boxes, teacher will introduce the text in detail.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Teacher wants them to put the words in correct box for them. After finishing the text, teacher will want them to stand up and try to move the words from the third and the second box to the first with asking their classmates.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Teacher will introduce that time is up. Teacher assumes that they won't have the full knowledge of the vocabulary. If the students come up with the semi-knowledge: Teacher will ask ' Do they have any words in the third box.' then teacher will write the unknown vocabulary on the board to clarify the meanings of each. Pronunciation: Teacher will highlight the stress of words on the board. If students come up with low or zero knowledge: Teacher will describe the meanings of the vocabulary on the board. With giving an example of each vocabulary items, teacher will elicit the words. With the listening activity 4.31, students will try to fill the gaps with the definitions in the list.

Test #2 (10-12 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Teacher will give them to answer the test 2 alone. Teacher will set the time. Students will have 5 minutes to finish the text 2. After answering the gap fill test 2, students will change their papers with their partner. The whole class check mark their peers.

Free practice (10-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will let students to write their own definition without using the vocabulary items on a piece of paper. They will try to find the one who are the same criminal. Instruction: There are two same criminals on these papers, please come and pick one. Don't show your paper to your friends. Write a definition without using the vocabulary then stand up and ask your friends who they are to find your peer.
