in this lesson, students will be reading for specific information and then reading for details, the lesson start with a discussion about traffic and what kind of transportation the Ss like to use. following by a prediction task where the Ss are asked few questions to predict what the text is about. After that, they will start reading for specific information to find out the answers which will be given with the reading task, then they will read for details for T/F sentences. Finally they will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using bikes in their city.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Paris by Citybike in the context of bikes, traffic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of advantages and disadvantages of using bikes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i will tell the students where i live and have them tell me if there's a lot of traffic i will ask them if they know when the traffic time is , then i will tell them that I prefer to use public transportation rather than a car or a bike then i will give the Ss a HO which has few questions to discuss. Ss will be working in pairs

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

i will show some pictures to Ss and ask them what they think the text is about, i will also show some pictures of people riding bikes during traffic time, other pictures of people using the public transport then i will give them a HO and they need to write three questions after the brainstorming activity.

While-Reading/ (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging specific information reading tasks

After the Ss finish writing the three question, i will tell them if they can guess the answer, i will give them 2 minutes to guess, before they start reading i will try to elicit some vocabulary. After that i will tell them to read the text and look for the answers, they will be reading for specific information. students will be reading individually but working in pairs.

While-Reading/ #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

following the previous stage, i will give another task to the Ss (T/F) sentences, the Ss might need more time here to look for the right answers, plus they have to correct the false sentences, also they will be working in pairs here.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

i will tell to work in pairs and discuss, is the city bike system a good idea for your town why and why not ? and what solution do you have for the traffic issue? students will be practicing speaking here
