Description

In this lesson, students will predict a story. They will then listen to a crime story. They will learn passive structure through TTT and guided discovery, followed by writing and speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of passive in the context of crime

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

+ I'll start the class with the greetings and tell Ss the first sentence of the story about a fake headset (personal story). + I'll act the rest of the story + I'll set time limit(2min) + Ss will predict the rest of the story by talking in pairs + WCFB

Test #1 (6-8 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

+ Ss will start working on the reading part on HO1. + instruction:"Choose the right form of the verb in this text individually". + I'll give them HO1 + Ss will check their answers in pairs + I'll do a WC feedback to check answers and provide them with the right ones + I will show the form of the passive structure - Object + to be+ p.p + by + subject

Teach (13-18 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

a) Ss will listen to a crime story + Instruction" listen and answer these questions" + I'll give them HO2 + I'll play the recording + Ss will check their answers with their partners + WCFB b) Ss will listen to the recording again + Instruction: " listen again and fill the blanks" + I'll give them HO3 + Ss will check their answers with their partners + I'll give them answer key C) I'll mark two sentences from the listening on the board - It is believed that he was mainly interested in finding drugs - He is thought to have committed between 50 and 100 burglaries in the area. + I'll give them a guided discovery HO4 and ask them to fold it inorder to see the meaning part only + I'll set a time limit + Ss will work in pairs and try to answer the questions with their partners + I'll do a WCFB + I'll ask if they have any problem and then tell them to unfold the paper and work on the function part in pairs + I'll do WCFB, and then Ss should try to complete the forms with their partners + Then I will give them the answers as HO5 to check their answers. + At the end, I will drill the marker sentences.

Test #2 (5-6 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

* I'll give them another test HO6 + Instruction: "Use the notes to complete the blanks" + I'll set a time limit + I'll give them HO6 + Ss will check their answers in pairs + They'll check their answers on the wall

Free practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

+ I'll show some pictures of crime story on the board + Instruction: " On a piece of paper write a headline for each picture" + Ss will check their ideas with their partners and talk about it + I'll monitor them and take some notes from their speech + I'll write them on the board and correct them with their help (delayed correction)
