In this lesson, Students will read and practice the names of means of transport and arrange them according to its speed. They will also discuss what means of transport they use and the problems they have in traffics.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of means of transports names in the context of transportation and traffic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of transportation and traffic


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask the students what means of transport they usually use in their daily life. Tell the students I will show them a video and that we will discuss it after they finish watching Discuss the main topic of the video (Transports)

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask the students to look at the picture on the SB Put your flash cards on the board Tell the students the name of each flash card and drill chorally or individually or both

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask the students to look at the SB. Let them work in pairs to find types of transport in the pictures. Explain that they will not find all of them in the pictures. Monitor the pair work. Check answers and give feed back.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Write fast on the top of the board, and slow on the bottom elcit to make sure that the students understand the concepts of fast and slow Ask students where to put "aeroplane" and put it on top. Ask the students what to put on the bottom and put bicycle. Let the students arrange the rest of the flash cards. Students work individually to solve the exercise. Give the students 2 minutes and then check in pairs. Monitor the class while solving and checking. Give feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (2-3 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask the students :"How do you usually travel to your work/house?" Highlight the use of the preposition"by" for all types of transport and "on foot" only as we walk. Ask students to work in pairs to answer the exercise Monitor and then Give your feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice 2 (2-3 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ask students to look at the box on Exercise 4. Explain any difficult word (by giving meaning or flash cards). Ask the students to match the pictures with the expressions individually. Check in pairs Give the feedback.

Free Practice (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give the students a handout on how to travel to different places. Ask the stedents to discuss in pairs. Monitor as they work in pairs. Discuss with the whole class and give feedback
