Description

This lesson focuses on the new topic of regrets. In this lesson, Ss will be introduced to th topic by watching a movie. Then the T will present some blocking words. Ss are handed out a text to gist and scan. Last but not least, the T will present the grammar. Finally, there will be follow-up activity focusing on Ss' receptive skills.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer (3-6 minutes) • To activate Ss' schemata

The T starts the class with greeting and quickly groups the Ss. Then, the T writes three Qs on the board and plays a movie on the context of "regret" and asks the Ss to answer the Qs. Qs: 1. What is the movie about? 2. What is the feeling that people have? 3. Why? The T asks Ss to check their understanding with their partners.

Pre-Reading (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist information

* The T starts to pre-teach two blocking idioms that Ss might find difficult. The T put the first picture on the board and tries to elicit the idiom from the Ss. * Then the T has some CCQs to check if they have understood it or not. * Then the T puts the second picture on the board and tries to elicit the idiom from the Ss and asks some CCQs. Idioms: 1. He lays the blame at somebody eles' door. CCQs: Did you do the activity or someone else? Someone else Did you do something good or bad? Bad Are you afraid of being punished? Yes 2. To get on the property ladder. CCQs: Are you facing financial problems or you are making financial progress? Financial progress * The T grabs the Ss' attention and gives the instruction. Ins.: There are 5 sentences here, I want you to read them individually and guess if they are True or False. ICQ: Are you going to read it alone or with your partners? alone * The T gives the Ss HO 1 including 5 sentences. Then the T asks them t check their answers with their partners.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

The T grabs the Ss attention and gives a new instruction. Ins.: Here is a text, I want you to read it individually in 6 minutes and check if you were right or not. ICQs: Are you going to read it alone or with your partners? Alone How much time have you got? 6 min. The T gives the HO 2 to the Ss and quickly starts monitoring. The T asks Ss to check their answers with their group members. The T asks Ss to come up to the board and write the answers. The T comes up with a new activity and asks the Ss to match them up in their groups. The T asks Ss to come to the board and write the answers.

Post-Reading (4-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

The T put the correct timeline on the board. The T grabs the Ss' attention and gives the instruction. Ins.: with your partner, I want you to answer the Qs. The T check the answer with the class.

Speaking activity (6-10 minutes) • To give Ss opportunity to use the grammar they have already learned.
