Description

In this lesson students will be focusing on nationalities' vocabulary as they've already learned some countries' names previously. They will have different activities to practice what they'll learn as well as giving importance to their utterance when pronouncing the TL .

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in short conversations and sentences in the context of Nationalities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T greets Ss and grabs some markers , then asks them to write two countries for each on the WB. - T takes one example of a country written on WB and says : Ex i am from Germany . T then asks : What's my nationality to elicit information from Ss If Ss struggle to answer T gives the answer . if Ss predict the right answer T asks one of the students : What country are you in now ? then what do we call people from Turkey .. - T will have a open class FB to discuss the answers

exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through task and listening

-T will give instructions for the coming exercise : - T chest the handout while giving instructions: - Work in pairs * Match the countries and nationalities -Are you going to circle the correct answer ? (ICQ) - T will monitor while Ss are working and will be ready to help T then provides an audio Answer key and asks students to check their answers

Pronunciation (6-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify utterance

-T uses exercise 1 to clarify words' stress. -T writes 4 words one WB : -Italy - Japan -Portugal -China - Then T explains how the stress changes when the form changes: -Italian - Japanese -Portuguese --Chinese -T drills pronunciation first together and then individualy.

Controlled practice (7-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice words' stress

-T gives instructions to exercise 11 from Workbook: Work in groups Write the words in the box in the right column. -T montiors while Ss are working in groups -When Ss finish , T does a WCFB

Free practice (2-5 minutes) • To provide feedback for each other

-T will hang some pictures on the WB and will ask Ss to guess where the people are from based on their looking. - T will put Ss in next exercise's context by asking the language spoken in those countries . - Answers will be given from all the class as to get a gobal conversation .

highlight (3-6 minutes) • to match countries with their spoken language

-T will give instructions about the next exercise Match the countries and the languages to make true sentences Work in pairs - T Monitors while Ss work - When Ss finsh T plays track 5.11 as an audio answer key . - Ss check their answers together

Semi controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • To provide practice and speaking by creating sentences

-T will ask students to stand and mingle in order to start an activity as to - t will ask students to look at exercise 4 and get one of the students to read the question ask and answer questions with a partner -T makes a demo with a student in order for the others to understand what they're going to do .

Kinesthetic activity (5-6 minutes) • to a better use of vocabulary items that were covered

-T groups Ss and give them instructions about the activity - T sets a time limit of 5 minutes T distributes HO containig answer keys as a written FB and check altogether
