Description

In this lesson, students will be doing listening exercises about problems in hotel rooms and what they look for in hotels. They will be leaning future grammar and how to use future 'will' and 'going to'. They will be doing matching activities and completing dialogues.

Materials

Main Aims

To provide practice of future 'will' and 'going to' in the context of decisions made at the moment or decisions that have already been made.

Subsidiary Aims

To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about problems that occured in the context of hotels and events in the hotel

Procedure (39-51 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Get the students to talk about: "What is most important for you in a hotel?" Write on the board, For example: For me the hotel has to be next to the sea, a swimming pool, restaurants and the nightlife. PW FB

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide listening for gist and specific information and highlight useful words and phrases

Two people went to the hotel for the weekend. Listen to the recording and tick the problems they had. Read the problems they may have had. HO activity 1 Peer check FB you are going to listen again and put the events in order. Students read the events Unfold HO activity 2 Peer check FB

Grammar (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity learn future tense 'will' or 'going to'

Split the board into two. Future 'will' and 'going to' We use Will ('ll) + infinitive when we decide something at the moment of speaking. Example: Don't worry. I'll ask him to fix it. If you like it, I'll take you in my car. Draw form table on WB Pronunciation We use am/is/are/going to + infinitive when we have already made the decision. Example: We're going to save money to buy a flat I'm going to to buy a present for Sam Draw form table on WB Pronunciation Activity 3. Grammar practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students to practice using the grammar

Ss work in groups of three. Activity 4: The Peake Hotel has two friendly stars but the Peake family want three stars. They have a family meeting to decide what to do. Choose the correct form of verb to complete the dialogue. (4mins) FB

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning and form of the task language

Activity 5: change pairs PW Complete the dialogue between a guest and a hotel manager with ''ll' or the correct form of 'going to'. Listen to the recording to check answers.

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Students work in pairs to practice the dialogue in the previous activity.
