Description

In this lesson students will cover certain vocabulary units in the context of family members. It will be followed by a listening activity in which they will reinforce the units that they have seen and practice the mentioned lexical items through further tasks.

Main Aims

  • To provide students with some basic vocabulary in the context of family members

  • To get students to practice the family-related vocabulary within the selected context

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Lesson starts with the `Get in line` activity. Ask them to stand up and ask them to stand in line from the biggest to the smallest family with the help of the question. `How many people are there in your family?` If the instructions aren't enough for them to understand, T will give an example from his/her family. T will pair them according to where they are staying at the moment in line.

While-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

After pairing the ss, T will ask them to read the text about `Annie Taylor` then answer the questions from exercise 2. At the end, students will be ask to pair check their answers. T will give some feedback.

Pre-teach Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information vocabulary

T will show family members PowerPoint to the class. The family tree of Simpsons will help students to understand the meaning of the vocabulary. Then T will distribute a handout on which there will be a chart that includes basic family vocabulary. Ss will be asked to repeat the words from the chart.

Vocabulary (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference vocabulary tasks

T will open the record 4.4. T will ask students to answer the questions.

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will open the record 4.5. Then ask Ss their reasons for each answer. T wants them to check in pairs.
