Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • Sts pratice speaking likes and dislikes.

Procedure

Warmer (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context: first date (getting to know what each other do and don't like).

T mixes up groups. 5 tables = 5 groups e.g. 12345. T displays 2 pictures on WB of a man and a woman sat at a table in a restaurant. T elicits suggestions from students about what is going on. *If sts struggle T prompts students by asking yes/no questions (e.g. Is it a business meeting? Is it a study session?) until 'date' has been elicited. ** If answer still not elicited from sts T asks students what you would do if you met someone you liked. 'You would ask the out on a.....' (ans: date). T asks students what you might talk about on a date..... (interests/ what you like and don't like). T asks sts if the people in the pictures like the same things.

Reading (8-10 minutes) • Sts find vocab about things they like and don't like.

T displays reading material on board and asks elicits one answer from sts about what Mark likes. T circles sts answers. T hides reading material on WB T tells students to do the same. T gives 3 minutes for task (ICQ: what do we do?/ how long?) T monitors. T gets feedback by eliciting answers from sts and writes on WB.

Reading (10-10 minutes) • Sts learn degrees of like and dislike.

T writes on board a big line and puts a love hart at one end and and really angry face at the other end. T eliciıts from sts where to put 'I love' on the board. T elicits from sts where to put 'I hate on board' T tells sts (holds handout in hand) to put the phrases in order. T gives 5 mins T asks ICQs (what do you do?, how long have you got?) T monitors (1. everyone on task, 2. general monitoring) T gets feedback by eliciting answers. Sts write answers in correct place on board.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes)

T writes on board: I love, I really like, I ike, I quite like, Is/are OK, I don't like, I hate. T writes Noun (e.g. books) and Verb + ing (e.g. reading) T asks students to come and write on the WB T gets feedback by eliciting answers from different tables. T elicits from sts how to ask if you like reading. T asks sts to ask him questions. (Do you like?) T asks sts questions (do you like?)

Speaking (8-10 minutes) • Sts practise asking/ telling each other about what they like and dislike.

T writes "Do you like....." on WB T asks sts to write 5 questions about what people like. T asks sts to ask as many people as they can. T says "you have 8 mins" T tells class to sit down. T asks sts what they learnt about each others
