Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a freer speaking exercise in the context of Film

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about 3 conversations about films in the context of film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I ask students about films they like first, then students match 5 different films pictures to the types of films.

Pre- Listening (1-2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will tell the students that they are going to listen to 3 conversations and try to elicit their guesses what they might be about .

Gist listening (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I elicit some possible situations from the students

Detailed listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

First, I hand out the questions to Ss and they listen again carefully to answer the questions. Then, I check in pairs and I play it again if necessary.

Speaking (10-12 minutes) • To allow students an opportunity to speak in meaningful real-world context.

I give the students time to prepare the activity to complete the sentences with their own ideas and I circulate and monitor carefully. I correct and pay particular attention to the target language. Ss can also do a freer speaking with new pairs
