Description

In this lesson, students will expand into their own experiences related to job interviews. They will listen to five people talking about strange questions they were asked during job interviews, listen for detail, and conduct an imaginary job interview between themselves, which will cover the productive skill base.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking fluency in the context of interviews.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed listening practice aimed at details in conversations about job interviews.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask a question related to the picture shown in previous lesson and have them discuss in pairs: Have they ever been for a job interview? What type of questions did they ask? Did they get the job?

Pre-listening activity (6-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will elicit some guesses on certain vocabulary items that the learners might have a trouble with and pre-teach a few of these items. Ss will be shown several real life extreme interview questions on OHP and discuss how would they react to certain questions.

Listening for detail (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T will distribute the handouts showing the chart from p.7 of Student's Book in bigger detail, in order for them to use in pairs during the listening task. Ss will listen to an audio track afterwards.

Job Interview (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T nominates Ss A and B, and changes the seating according to how it might be during a job interview. Ss interview each other based on the questions they see on their distributed handouts and the ones they've heard during the audio track.

Extended Job Interview (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will write 2-3 interview questions of their own and go around asking everone in the class.
