Art and questions without auxiliaries (review)
Upper Secondary 3 level

Description

In this lesson, Ss review questions without auxiliaries and practice use of new lexis related to Art. As a lead- in, Ss are given question words( who, when, where) and are asked to make interrogative sentences with the words. They make a sentence with the words given to them and then move to the next word. They are given 4 minutes to complete this game. Next, Ss are given a HO. They are to make questions for the given answers. New vocabulary related to Art is introduced to the Ss. Ss are encouraged to elicit answers looking at pictures. This is followed by an activity, wherein Ss match words to sentences. They are given the next HO, wherein they are to choose the correct form of words and fill in gaps. Then they use words from the previous exercises and complete the next task, where in they fill in gaps. Lastly, Ss play Taboo with a Twist. In this game, Ss are divided into two teams. One member of a team gets a word. The other members are to ask questions and guess the word.

Procedure

Lead-in (6-7 minutes) • To activate Ss schemata

Ss play a game. Cards with a question word is kept on each table. Ss are divided into groups of four. Ss are to see the card and make sentences using words on the card. Then they move on to the next card till they reach the last card. Thus Ss practice making questions. WCFB and error correction is done.

Controlled written practice (10-15 minutes) • For Ss to review and practice making questions.

Ss are given a HO and are instructed to work in pairs. They are to make questions with for the given answers. PC and WCFB is done.

Unblock Vocabulary and Vocabulary - clarification and review (20-23 minutes) • For Ss to develop and improve vocabulary related to Art.

Task 1: Ss are introduced to new words through pictures and sentences. Ss are encouraged to guess the word. Task 2: Ss are given a word web and are asked to put words in the correct column. Task 3: Ss work in groups. They are to match words with sentences. PC and WCFB are done.

Controlled written practice (13-15 minutes) • For Ss to develop and practice vocabulary.

Ss are given a HO and are asked to work alone. They are to choose the correct answer and fill in gaps. Meanings of words and different form of words are discussed in class. Answers are elicited from Ss through questions. PC and WCFB are done.

Controlled written practice (13-15 minutes) • For Ss to review and practice vocabulary

Ss are given a HO and are asked to work in pairs. They are to fill in the gaps with words from the previous tasks. PC and WCFB are done.

Freer Speaking Practice (8-10 minutes) • For SS to practice and review vocabulary and questions on the topic: Art

The game Taboo with a Twist is played. Ss are divided into two groups. A member from each group is given a word. The other members have to guess the word by asking questions. If they guess the word, they get another word. If not, the other team gets a chance.

Lesser Controlled Speaking Practice (8-10 minutes) • To review and practice making questions.

A few clues are displayed on the IWB. Ss are to make questions using the clues. Ss are divided into groups. The first group to make questions with the given word scores a point. Error correction is done during feedback.
