Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn about positive and negative short responses through the guided discovery. Students are going to be tested on their knowledge regarding the grammar. Based on the outcome of the test, the teacher will work on the grammar. The students will practice their accuracy and fluency in controlled and freer practices.

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of "yesterday"

Procedure

Lead in (2-3 minutes) • The aim of this stage is to generate instesrt in the topic of the lesson which is "short responses" ,for the studnets to understan the context of the garrmmar.

The teacher will state a sentence about herself and her college to personalize the topic in order to attract the students' attention on the topic. The sentence is: "guys what was my name? shamim ,do you remember yesim? yes. The video I'm going to show is about me and yesim. ask in pairs,where do we have the same opinion?" The teacher will show a video which is a dialogue between her and a friend. The video shows how the positive and negative "short responses" and having "same feeling" work in a conversation. The students work in pairs and share their answers. The teacher will elicit the answer from 1/2 students.

First Test (diagnostic) (3-7 minutes) • The aim of this stage is to test the learner's current knowldege of and ability to use the language and identify what the issues are.

After the teacher attracted students' attention towards the topic, the teacher tests their knowledge on grammar to see how much they know about it. The teacher give HO1 which is a dialogue and its about "short responses" . The dialogue has 3 blanks and the students have to fill them idivsuallly. The teacher will show the dialoged to the students and asks them to fill out the gaps and check their answers with their pairs. The teacher will ask ICQs. The ICQs are: "Are you writing individually or in pairs? individually." "Are you going to check your answers with your partners? yes" The teacher will monitor the students and check whether they understood the instructions and write the common mistakes they make while they are writing.

Teach( clarifying) (10-15 minutes) • The aim of this stage is to clarify the meaning so learners understand it better, to clarify issues learners had with pronunciation so they know how to say it better and to clarify issues with form so that learners know how to construct it better.

The teacher will give students HO2 which has 3 "short response" sentences . The teacher will tell the students they have to read the sentences and answer the questions. The students complete part A individually and check their answers in pairs. Questions in pat A will clarify the meaning of the grammar for the students. The teacher ask ICQs. The ICQs are: "Are you going to write individually? yes." "Are you going to check you answers in pairs? yes." "Are the questions about the sentences above? yes." The teacher will monitor the students to write down their mistakes. The teacher will correct the students if they had instruction problems. The teacher will get feedback on 1/2 students by asking the questions to check their answers. The teacher will give the students the answer key to check their answers in pairs. The teacher will ask the students to complete activity part B. The students will complete the questions individually and check their answers in pairs. Activity part B helps students to understand the form of the grammar and how to use it in a sentence. The teacher will ask ICQs. The ICQs are: "Are you writing in pairs? no." "Are you going to check your answers with your partner? yes". The teacher monitors the students to check and write their mistakes for later to correct. The teacher will get feedback on 1/2 student by asking the questions to check their answers. The teacher will give the answer key to students to check their answers in pairs. The teacher will writ the 3 "short response" sentences on the board so to check the pronunciation. The students will repeat the sentences underlined. The teacher will correct the students by putting the stress in the correct place. The teacher will use back chaining if needed. The students will repeat for the last time.

Second test (controlled practice 1) (3-5 minutes) • The aim of this satge is to provide controlled written practice focused on using the language accurately and to test what learners have learnt from the teach stage.

The teacher will give the HO3 which has 2 controlled practice to help the students to understand the grammar accurately. The teacher will ask students to get in groups of 3 to share more ideas and for increasing peer correction. The teacher will ask students to do exercise 1 and fill the gaps with the correct answer in their groups. The teacher will ask ICQs. The ICQs are: "Are you working individually? no." "Are you going to check your answers in group? yes." The teacher will monitor to write down students' mistake to correct them later. The teacher will get feedback on 1/2 students by asking them 1/2 questions. The teacher will give the answer key to students to check their answers.

Second test (controlled practice 2) (3-5 minutes) • The aim of this satge is to provide controlled written practice focused on using the language accurately and to test what learners have learnt from the teach stage.

The teacher will ask the students to complete exersize 2 on HO3 in their groups and check their answers with each other. The teacher will ask ICQ. The ICQs is: "Are you going to check your answers in groups? yes". The teacher monitors the studnets to check if they have problems regarding the instructions and to write down their mistakes to correct later on. The teacher will get feedback on 1/2 studnets by asking 1/2 questions from the activity. The teacher will give the answer key to studnets to check their answres.

Second test (freer practice) (5-10 minutes) • the aim of this stage is to provide freer oral practice and use the langage productively and to test what learners have learnt from the teach stage.

The teacher will tell the students to get in pairs. The teacher will tell the students to talk about "what did they do yesterday?" and "how did they feel?", in pairs. The teacher will tell students to listen to each other and sentence by sentence tell each other if they feel the same way. The students have to change roles. The teacher will monitor to if the students are fluent enough and will correct students' mistakes. The teacher will get feedback on 2 students by asking questions to see if they can use the grammar.
