Description

The context for the lesson will follow on from the previous lesson. The context will revolve around 'Big Events', and it will be a listening task. Create an atmosphere for a good discussion and listening for gist and detail.

  • Speaking sub aim, students read and speak to each other regarding Big events they may have attended

Procedure

Lead in (5-5 minutes) • Generate interest in the thene

Slide show showing big events. Have the students guess what the events where and what they are.

Pre Teach vocabulary (10-10 minutes) • Pre-Teach/unblock key lexis need to help students understand the text

Check Vocabulary. Elicit from the students for clarification. Write on WB: -Memorable Event -Peace March -Religious -Performance -Royalty Work in groups. PW. Set the activity/task: Look in the list and describe any events you have been too. Not in detail, detail description will be in the Post Read exercise. CLARIFY VOCABULARY ON THE LIST. Elicit from Sts. Give HO.01. After PW, share in group.

While Reading: Listening for gist (10-12 minutes) • For learners to get an overview of the text

Introduce the task. We will listen to a audio track. Four People will describe a memorable event they attended. Answer as many questions as you can for each person. PW. Give the HO.02. Have students read the HO questions. Check they understand the below vocabulary; -take place -mentioned -atmosphere Play track. T7.1. Pause after each speaker to allow students to take notes. a. what was the event b. where and when did it take place c. which other people are mentioned d. what was the atmosphere like Have Sts peer check. Check as a group.

While reading: Listening for detail (10-12 minutes) • For learners to understand the text in depth

Introduce the task. Play the recording again (if necessary), ask the Sts. Four People will describe a memorable event they attended. Answer as many questions as you can for each person. PW. Give the HO.03. Have students read the HO questions. Check they understand the below vocabulary; Play track. T7.1. Play without stopping. Have Sts peer check. Check as a group.

Post Reading task (7-10 minutes) • Speaking Task

PW. Assign post task. Describe big events you have been too in detail, mention the events from the 1st exercise. Each sts takes a turn in describing his/her event.
