Description

In this lesson students will practice past simple questions in the context of travel

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of past simple in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- The teacher will show some pictures related to travel - The teacher will ask the students "what are they all about" - The teacher wants to engage the students in the topic( no teaching any new vocabulary)

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- The teacher will provide the students with a handout which contains four questions. - First, the teacher ask the student to complete the questions by choosing the best answer - The students will check their answers in pairs. - The teacher will provide the students with the correct answer which is " DID" - The teacher asks the students to ask and answer the questions in pairs - In this stage, teacher will monitor the students in order to find out their problems and correct their problems as a whole class feed back.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

- The teacher will write some of the students answer on the board as model sentences. ex. " 1. I had a great time last holiday. 2. I bought a bag last holiday. 3. I went shopping last holiday." - The teacher will elicit the meaning of " How was your trip to Singapore?" -The teacher will use the model sentences to clarify the question form. - The teacher will try to elicit it, because they've already been exposed to these form. - The teacher will write the form on the board. - The teacher will focus on the stress and pronunciation - The teacher will give the students some drilling activities to help them with any possible problems.

Test #2 (10-13 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-The teacher will provide the student with a handout which contains some phrases ex. hotel, sightseeing, good food, like Singapore, present for your family, and Singapore Airline - The teacher will ask the students to make questions with " Did you..............? - once they are finished, the teacher ask them to check their answers in pairs. - The teacher will provide the students with answers. - The teacher will ask the students to ask and answer the questions in pairs. - The teacher will ask the students to change their partner and do the same activity - During the activity, the teacher will monitor the students and take notes to correct the students as a whole class feed back

Free practice (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- The teacher will ask the students to think of holiday they have recently taken. - The teacher will ask the students to write some key words about their holiday - The teacher will ask the students to change their papers and ask each other some questions related to their holiday - The teacher will make the students to change their partners and do the same activity again. - The teacher will monitor the students during the activity - The teacher will correct some of the students' common mistakes as a whole class feed back.
