In this lesson, Students will be able to talk about relationships and the photos he carries around with him

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about photos people carry with them in the context of relationships

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of photos they carry in their wallets

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Give the students pictures about different relationships and ask the students which relation ship they think is the strongest in their point of view. Ask the students about the best way to meet their life partner , or to meet a new friend. List their ideas.

Pre-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Focus the students attention on the photos on Page 20 Ask the students to work in pairs and discuss the relationship they think is between each person and people in the photos

While-Reading/Listening #1 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ask the students to read the article individually and check their ideas about the relations the people in the article have. Explain the cultural note about "Action Aid" and what relationship does it holds.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Go through the statements. Ask the students to reads the articles again, and match people with the statements. Ask them to check their answers in pairs. Check the answers with them.

Post-Reading/Listening (4-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask students to work in pairs and talk about the photos they carry around and why do they carry them, or about their favourite photo of someone they know
