Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification of Spider Phobias in the context of Pills for your phobias
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
I will talk briefly about my trip to Australia and the difficulties I faced because I had not gathered enough information before travelling during the spider season. I will talk about the disease I got last week cause I was bitten by the spiders (Tuberculosis). I will ask students if they know what type of people might not be able to leave there. After eliciting their answers, I will reveal that Australia might not be a good option for people with arachnophobia (a fear of spiders), as they have a spider season in the country, At the end, I will ask students if they have any other phobias and elicit a few answers from them.
The students will be informed about the meaning of the following vocabularies extracted from my lean in story and the reading text. They will be encouraged to guess the meanings of these words based on their prior knowledge and any previous encounters with them. Phobia- Tuberculosis- Cure- Overcome- Exposure Therapy- Placebo.
The students will read the text and try to answer the following questions: Do you know of any kinds of treatment for people who have phobias? Do you think this pills are going to be useful or humanity will overcome thier fears or not.
The students will be asked to read the sentences on page 71, part b, and decide whether the sentences are true or false. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs or a group of three then we will check the answers with the whole class. Students will need to say why they have marked each sentence True or False and they will need to support their ideas if they come up with different answers.
Students will be asked to talk to each other in pairs or groups of 3 about what are some of the common phobias and thier treatment and what people from their family would overcome thier fears.
