Description

In this speaking lesson,ss are shown a picture of a house and asked to say what they see. Teacher then talks about his house and writes on the wb vocabulary related to a house in context by way of questions.Does the house look nice? Do you like the house? Is the house big? What is the color of the house? The teacher then asks ss to discuss about their houses.The ss are then taken through a dictogloss exercise.Any language used is noted on the wb for discussion.

Materials

Abc A text.entitled my house.

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking activity to develop students fluency in the context of a houseswap short text.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide students with vocabulary practice,process and produce writing, have a gist,specific and detailed listening in a context of a houseswap text.

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

A picture of a beautiful house is projected and ss say what they see. Teacher prompts ss about the house. On the wb ,Does my house look good? Do you like it? Where is it?Is my house big? What is the color of my house? teacher notes on the board short answers.

Initial reading (listening) (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teacher gives instructions. Let me read to you a story about my house .Showing the text Ss need to listen. Teacher checks if ss are interested.

Reading/ Listening for detailed information (2) (4-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher checks if students have a writing material. The teacher reads the paragraph again and asks students to write down the paragraph. Teacher monitors ss. If there is need ,a third reading is done Ss write again, expected to write more. Instruction: get into groups of 3-4 and write the whole story.Give ablank white paper. write the whole story. Give the original text and ask students to check if similar or different.

Language analysis (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to check meaning,form,pronunciation

On the WB the teacher writes : The house looks nice? Meaning. The house looks nice CCQ Is the house good? yes/No Do you like the house? yes/No Do you have the money to buy this house? Yes/No What is the other word for nice,prompt ....is it bad. Is it beautiful?..Do you love it? Form The house (s) looks (v) nice (adj) Pronunciation Drill The house looks nice.(nais)
