Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present perfect in the context of life experience

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of life experience

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The class will be started by a game that i want to play called two truth and a lie. im telling three sentences or more about my interesting life experience from my trip to japan and ask students to find which sentences are true and which one is a lie. it will be followed by asking students to tell the class about the most interesting life experience they've had

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will choose 4 of my students sentences to write in the correct present perfect form on the board and using the correct form of present perfect+ two adverbs commonly used with this grammar(already/ yet) to draw students' attention to the target language.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

i start with draw a line(Past------------------------Now) with a sentence, e.g., I've visited mount Fuji. then add some CCQs on the board to establish the basic meaning of TL and make students curious about grammar----> Did i visit it before now?(yes). is the sentence about past, present or future?(past). do we know when i visited it?(no). is it an experience i've had in my life?(yes). then i want students have some comment about the role of the words and the way i changed the verb. sub+ have/ has+ p.p and practice them how they can change that structure to make a present perfect question(have/ has+ sub+ p.p verb+-----?) and how to answer that and make negative sentence. of course i let them know about p.p form of the verbs and give them a list of commonly regular and irregular verb ( try to choose that verbs from sb and especially the verbs used in this unit) and i will practice the correct pronunciation of the verbs cuz there are a lot of p.p verbs that have very different pronunciation from their base form . after main grammar im going to introduce two common adverbs used with the present perfect 'yet' and 'already' . we use 'yet' +present perfect in questions and negative sentences, e.g. , have you played tennis yet? no, not yet. i haven't played tennis yet.( structure ---->negative: sub+ haven't+ p.p+ yet. question: have/ has + sub+ p.p+ yet?) and 'already' for positive sentences to say that sth happened before now or earlier than expected( we put 'already' before main verb), e.g. ,i've already visited mount fuji.( structure: sub+ have/ has+ already+ p.p).

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students are going to do two practice on page 133 in the grammar bank in 4 minutes. they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers with the whole class.

Free Practice (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

i return to the game from the beginning of the class two truth and a lie. each student make three sentences about their life experience and ask their classmates to guess the lie. this will give them an opportunity to use the TL in a fun and engaging way. while they do this they will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if they needed. they are going to make a lecture about their experiences from their last trip as a HW.
