Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask the students about the job of John Betterman, the man mentioned in the text they had just read in the previous class. I will elicit the answer 'Consultant' and ask the students what a consultant does. I will get them to come up with a description and a few examples to make sure everyone is clear. At that moment, the word 'advice' will come up as well. I will then ask the students to look at the text they have been given to find a word that is similar to advice or consulting.

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

I will give the student the grammar exercise and give them 5 minutes to skim read the text and match the highlighted words with the verbs used in the grammar text.

Task (10-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will monitor the students as they work, if there are some who are not clear, I will pair them with the ones who do and give them 5 minutes of pair work. while they do pair work, I will write the grammar exercise on the board. Then I will ask them to find words in the text that are similar to the ones on the board. eg: mentioned - suggested I will ask the students which verbs they think are stronger and which are weaker.

grammar (20-27 minutes) • reporting verbs

I will underline the reporting verbs and verb and ask the students what the sentence means. I will try to elicit the word 'Report' from them. I will explain the grammatical structure for the first example and ask them to work in pairs to do the rest' giving them 5 minutes.

clarification (27-35 minutes) • reporting verb form

I will monitor the students as they work on the grammatical form and ask them to help me write it on the board for the rest of the sentences.

Language Analysis (35-40 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

I will give students the last exercise and ask them to report the direct speech using verbs from the grammar box working in pairs. Ask them for answers.

Grammar Practice (40-45 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language and grammar

I Will ask the students to look at the reported speech on the exercise and tell me who might be talking to who. If we have more time, I will ask them to work in pairs and tell one another a story about a time, where they have to use reporting verbs.
