Main Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a formal / informal style in the context of business correspondence.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of language used for business correspondence in the context of emails.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Elicit reminders about conducting business in the Western world from previous class.

Exposure (15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Unit 4, Business Correspondence 1 Pg 23 Students to read each statement and class to discuss

Present Language focus (15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Unit 4, Business Correspondence 1, Pg 24 On WB, write up first block and have students correct, one at a time,

Productive Task(s) (25 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Unit 4, Pg 24, Q2: * Clarify meanings of informal vs formal vocabulary 1-9 * Elicit business / bank / finance acronyms, * Discuss use of ACRONYMS or abbreviations in formal correspondence. Q3: 1 - 10 Write up each sentence on WB, students to write down full sentence, one at a time.

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
