Main Aims

  • T and Ss get to know each other

Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss practice speaking for fluency
  • Ss practice using previous knowledge of grammar concepts

Procedure

Icebreakers (20-30 minutes) • For T and Ss to get to know each other

Icebreakers: Split Ss into groups, and have them come up with questions about T. Each Ss comes up with one question, then Ss take turns asking T in front of the class. | T writes questions for Ss on the board (why are you learning English, what's a moment you're proud of, what's a funny childhood memory, etc.). T gives Ss 5 minutes to write their answers, then Ss take turns sharing.

Games (40-50 minutes) • For Ss and T to loosen up by engaging in fun activites

Heads up | One word story | Hangman | Pick a side (T puts a divisive question on the board (i.e. pineapple on pizza, good or bad?) and has students go to one side of the room or the other to show their opinion.)

Previous knowledge review (If times allows) (10-20 minutes) • For Ss to review previous grammar concepts

Passive voice: T writes sentences on the board in active and passive voice, then elicits "passive voice" from Ss. (Q: When do we use it? A: When focus is not on doer, but the receiver of the action) | Conditionals: T elicits conditionals 2 and 3 by questioning Ss, then has Ss identify them. (Q for 2nd conditional: What would you do if you had the ability to fly? Q for 3rd: What is something you would go back in time and change if you could?) | T goes over form for conditionals
