Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets the Ss. T talks about family and friends. They have an important effect in our lives. T asks one student if there is anyone he hates as a family or a friend. After S answers the question, T asks Ss to discuss with their partner who you love or hate and why. T monitors and if T hears anything interesting, brings it to the class or asks Ss if they have anything interesting to say.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T shows a paper to Ss. T gives instructions: There are some words here. Look at them and write the words you know here. If you don't know the exact meaning but you are familiar with the word, you will write it here. If you don't know anything about the word, you will write it here. T asks ICQ's: Are you just going to copy the words to one of this places? (yes) Are you going to write the meaning of the words? (no) Are you going to do it individually or with your partner? (individually) Rule: You can not use a dictionary during this activity. T: You have 2 mins. T monitors Ss. T divides Ss to four groups. (apple-banana-orange-strawberry) T gives instructions: Apples stand up. - Make a circle. - Turn back. Bananas stand up. - Make a circle around apples. -Find your partner. (onion ring) (same thing for oranges and strawberries) T: Ask your partner if they know the words that you don't know. Try to explain the words that you know. Rule: You can not talk in Turkish. T: Bananas hands up. - Move one person on your left. - Find your new partner. - Ask the meanings and explain them. (same thing for oranges and strawberries) T: Time's up! Sit down. T: Which words you don't know? (T writes the words on the board)

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T shows a paper to Ss. T gives the instructions:There are 17 words here. There are their meanings. Match the words with their meanings. You will work with your partner. Are you going to match the words? (yes) You have 5 mins. T monitors Ss. After they are done, T starts reading the meanings from the paper and asks for the word. (WC) Ss give answers and T writes the words on the board. (There was already some words on the board from test 1 activity. After asking the meaning, Ss will tell the answers.) T focuses on pronuncation and stress this time. T asks Ss about the form of the words and Ss say that they are adjectives. T does repetition of the words if needed for pronuncation and stress.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T shows the crosword paper to Ss and gives the instructions: You will work with your partner. Do the puzzle. You have 5 minutes. Teacher writes the answers on the board or make an early finisher write the answers on the board. After this activity, Ss check their answers by looking at the board. T divides the class into four or five groups. (It depends on how many people come to the course that day.) T shows a bag to Ss. T gives the instructions: There are the words in this bag that we learned today. Each group will have one bag. One person in your group will take one card from the bag. He will try to explain it. After his group answers correctly, he will give the bag to the person on his left. The other person will take one card and this goes on like this. The group which finishes all the cards will be the winner. You can not explain the words in Turkish. ICQ's: Are you going to take 2 cards? (no) Are you going to explain the words in Turkish? (no) Are you going to give the bag on your left when you are done? (yes) T starts the game and monitors the Ss for a later error-correction. One of the groups wins the game.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T gives the instructions: Now, in pairs, describe your spouse (girlfriend/boyfriend - ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend or wife/husband) by using the adjectives we learned today. What kind of person are they? Talk to your partner. T monitors Ss for the error-correction at the end of the lesson. T does error-correction on the board. Finish!
