Procedure (36-47 minutes)
The teacher shows the picture and asks students to look at it carefully. The teacher asks, “Where are they?” and “Do you think they are rich or poor?” and elicits students’ answers. The teacher then zooms in on the glass bottle and asks, “What is this?” The teacher elicits “a glass bottle” and briefly introduces the topic of the reading.
The teacher asks students to read the text quickly and answer the gist question. Students then read the text again and answer the five questions to find specific information. The teacher asks students to underline the parts of the text where they found their answers. The teacher asks students to underline and guess the new words.
The teacher asks students to read the text quickly and answer the gist question: “Why is the glass bottle important in each part?” Students read individually and choose the best answer. The teacher then checks the answer with the whole class and briefly asks students to explain their choice. Also they answer the task's questions which they are the questions of scanning.
The teacher pre-teaches the key vocabulary from the text: traditional, dessert, empty, and towards, using pictures, examples, and simple CCQs. The teacher checks the meaning, form, and pronunciation of each word. Students work in pairs and compare their answers to the five reading questions. The teacher checks the answers with the whole class and asks students to explain where they found the answers in the text. Students should do the second task which is matching pictures and words.
The teacher asks students to read the text again and look carefully at the picture. The teacher asks students to identify and describe what they can see in the picture and relate it to the information in the text. The teacher then elicits answers from the class and provides feedback.
