Description

In this lesson, the students will practice speaking and writing by simple past.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation and discussion in the context of last weekend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of simple past in the context of last weekend

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-The teacher will ask the students whether they can remember anything from the previous lesson -First, the teacher will ask the students to work in pairs. -The teacher will then ask a few students to share what they remember about the reading.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-The teacher will provide the students with some sentences about the reading they have read. -The students will work and answer the questions individually. -The teacher will ask the students to write the names that match each sentence. -The students will check their answers in pairs - The teacher will write the answer key on the white board.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-The teacher will write a few model sentences on the WB. - "I went the to the park". - "She went to the park", - "He went to the park" - The teacher will explain that there is no difference between I, She, and He in simple past. -Review some irregular verbs by writing some model examples on the WB. EX. - I got up at 6 this morning ( Get up) I met my friends yesterday (Meet) I went to the restaurant (go) I wrote an email to my friend (write) I had lunch at an Italian restaurant last Sunday (have) -Students will repeat all the model sentences after the teacher.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-The teacher will write some time expressions on the board -Last weekend -In the morning -In the afternoon - On Sunday -In the Evening -Students will provide 3 examples of what they did last weekend , etc.... -Students will work individually and answer all 5 sections -Students will share answers in pairs and try to help their partners if needed. -Students will then switch partners and repeat the process. -Students will then be asked to share their partner's answers with the class by using HE/SHE.

Feedback and error correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide language feedback based on the task

-While the students are writing and speaking, The teacher monitors the students closely and makes notes about some common mistakes the students are making. -The teacher will put the students' mistakes on the WB and try to provide them with the correct answer.
