Description

In this lesson, students will practice fluency in speaking in the context of free time activities. Students will learn chunks of language while speaking.

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking fluency practice in the context of talking about free time activities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the practice of listening subskills for preparing students for the main aim.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will have to answer to two prompted questions: 1.What is free time? 2. What do you do in your free time? 3. What kind of activities? Ss. will have 4 to 5 minutes to answer these questions in a personal matter, while the teacher writes their answers on her G-slides.

Exposure-Content Preparation (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

1. Ss will read to a short email (p. 32 SB) from Trevor to Polly. Then Ss. will solve to 2 questions in G-forms related to the email. Then, Ss will check answers in OCFB with the teacher. 2. Ss. will now listen to audio 68, a conversation between Polly and Lorna talking about Trevor. Then Ss. will solve Section 2 of G-forms (from the previous one). Ss will do peer checking while reading the Audio Script the teacher will provide to them in her G-slides. After that, it will be OCFB.

Useful Language (7-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Meaning a) Ss. will match the columns of the free time activities with its correct drawing. They will have 1 minute to solve this in pairs. Ss. will do peer correction Then OCF b) Ss will tick the correct free time activities for Trevor while listening to audio 69. Ss will work in pairs. Then OCF Form Ss will review the rules for writing the correct form of the present time for the 3d person singular in + and - for the following speaking activities. Pronunciation Ss will be given the linking sounds rule for the ending consonant sounds and the beginning vocal sounds. They will listen to a very short audio (70 from the SB). The teacher will model and the Ss will drill individually and then chorally.

Productive Task(s)-Speaking (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-Ss will have the opportunity to practice their fluency with free time activities phrases and previous reviewed language. -They will have 2-3 rounds to do. 1. Speaking 1: Ss. will do pairwork and ask each other questions related to free time activities from the meaning sub-stage. Ss will have 5 minutes for this first speaking round. Teacher will monitor while Ss practice on their own. Questions: I. Do you watch sport on TV? Possible answers: a) No, never. b) Yes, every weekend. 2. Speaking 2: Ss. will have the opportunity to share their personal free time activities with their partner. They will have another 5 minutes to practice with this activity. 3. Speaking 3: Trevor's Free Time Activities. Ss. will agree or disagree with Trevor's free time activities. They will have the opportunity to use phrases such as: I like, I dont' like... Ss. will have 5 minutes to practice this activity. Note: The teacher will monitor Ss for each activity practiced by the Ss.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher will give Ss their feedback on their Speaking performances. Language and content wise. The teacher will write in her G-slides relevant information she gathered from her Ss in the Speaking stage. DEC will be given too to the Ss in order for them to improve their content and language abilities.
