Description

Students will learn and practice six expressions for weekend and holiday activities through MPFU. The lesson includes controlled semi controlled and free practice followed by a short review.

Main Aims

  • To teach and practice six expressions for weekend and holiday activities. The expressions are go abroad. go away for the weekend. go camping. go for a walk. go sightseeing. go skiing.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will practice using the target vocabulary in context.

Procedure

Greeting & Warm-up (2 minutes) • To create a positive classroom atmosphere and engage students with the lesson topic.

The teacher greets the students and briefly introduces the lesson topic. The teacher asks a simple question about weekend activities to activate students prior knowledge and get them ready for the lesson.

Lead-in (3 minutes) • To engage students in the topic and activate their prior knowledge.

The teacher shows pictures of weekend and holiday activities on the slides and asks students what they can see and what activities they usually do at weekends or on holidays. Students share their ideas with the class.

Presentation / MPFU (8 minutes) • To present the target vocabulary and clarify its meaning, pronunciation, form, and use.

The teacher presents the target vocabulary using pictures and examples on the slides. The teacher elicits the meaning, checks understanding using CCQs, models the pronunciation, and highlights the form and use of the target vocabulary. Students repeat the words and answer the teacher's questions.

Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To provide controlled practice of the target vocabulary.

The teacher gives students the handout and asks them to complete the controlled practice activity using the target vocabulary. Students work individually and then check their answers with a partner. The teacher monitors and provides support when necessary. The answers are checked with the whole class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5 minutes) • To help students use the target vocabulary in a more meaningful context.

Students complete a semi-controlled speaking activity on the handout. They work in pairs and ask and answer questions about their weekend and holiday activities, using the target vocabulary. The teacher monitors the activity and provides support when necessary.

Free Practice (4 minutes) • To give students an opportunity to use the target vocabulary freely and communicatively.

Students work in pairs and talk about their ideal weekend or holiday. They discuss what they like to do and what activities they usually do using the target vocabulary. The teacher monitors listens for good language and possible errors and provides brief feedback after the activity.

Review & Closing (3 minutes) • To review the target vocabulary and check students learning.

The teacher briefly reviews the target vocabulary by showing the words or pictures on the slides. The teacher asks students to recall the meanings and use some of the words in short sentences. The teacher gives brief positive feedback and closes the lesson.
