Procedure (34-41 minutes)
Have learners talk about 1 or 2 questions related to the topic of the lesson. a) What do you remeber of my previous class? b) Would you like to play those scientific games? c)Would you rather stay late at night playing games or would you prefer to do something else?
Ss will listen to audio 6.1 from the coursebook and complete the sentences using would, from Exercise 4, page 56 (Coursebook) (with the TL) given in Google Slides for each of them.
1. In the Meaning section Ss will complete exercise from p. 56 (Coursebook) Grammar Focus with the different uses for would and explainig their rules. Ss. will match the uses of would (a-f) with the TL (1-6) (sentences given in the previous stage: Text work). 2. Form: Ss. will be shown a timeline to calrify the use of 'would' to describe a discontinued past habit. As an alternative to 'used to'. Subject + would + bare infinitive + object The teachers would make us do these educational games. 3. Pronunciattion: Ss. will listen to audio 6.2 and they will have to choose 3 sentences from the audio to write them down in the slide given (G-slides). -Then Ss will do some drilling Sentences: 1. I'd rather not. 2. Would you give me a hand? 3. She wouldn't say. 4. I always knew I'd be a star. 5. Where would you live, if money was no object? 6. I wouldn't have thought so.
Ss will have to fill in the gaps by choosing the best option to use would in 7 sentences in a G-forms exercise. Adapted from exercise 6, p. 57.
Ss. will practice fluency in this stage by answering questions that have 'would'. They will have to write the answers on a piece of paper or in the chat box. Then, they will discuss with their peers each others answers. Questions: 1. Would you tell us why are you studying English? 2. If you had to choose between career and family, which one would you go for? Why? 3. Where would you live if money was no object? Why? 4. Would you ever consider working in the games or computer tech industry? Why? 5. Would you prefer to work in your house or in a workplace (office)? Why?
