Procedure (35-44 minutes)
1. I will show the picture from p. 56 (Coursebook: Navigate Advanced C1) to the Ss of young men who are "online gaming'. (The picture and the text will be shown in Google's Slide number 1 by sharing in Zoom). 2. The Ss will read the short text next to the picture and then will answer the following questions: -Can playing games save the planet? -Would you like to do this for a living? Why? These questions will be solved by them in an Open Class.
1. I will give the students three word combinations based on the 6.1 audio from page 56 in the textbook (Navigate Advanced C1): a) deep hatred, b) pretty dull, c) rather guilty. I will explain to the students the MFP (Meaning, Form and Pronunciation) of these word combinations. 1A. For Meaning: Ss wil match the adverb to its corresponding adjective in the interactive 'Match the columns' from wordwall.net -I will have a slide ready with the correct definitions to check together. 1B. For Form: Ss will be asked to which Parts of Speech do these words belong to? -I will show the Ss. three sentences with the correct use of them. -Then, in the same slide I will ask them to guess to which Parts of Speech do each highlighted word belongs to? -Finally, they will see a list of the words written in a table, and that they correspond to either the adverb (pretty, rather, deep) or adjective column (dull, guilty, hatred). For Pronunciation: The teacher will show the correct word stress for each word combination and Ss will do drilling of the given words.
1. The students will listen to the audio 6.1 from page 56 of the coursebook (Navigate Advanced C1), which consists of interviews to 4 gamers who will explain why they would like or not to try these online games for research purposes. I have to remind the Ss to listen to the general idea of the audio. -Note: If the Ss need it, I will play again the audio. 2.Then the Ss will solve the exercise 3 from the textbook but in a Google Forms, Multiple Choice style. When they're ready they will do a Peer Feedback. 3. When the students finish with peer feedback, the teacher will proceed to OCF (Open Class Feedback) and check the Ss answers from Google Forms to see any difficulties. -Note: Ss can read the audioscript given in Google Forms.
1. Ss will listen again to the 6.1 audio from the coursebook so they can solve the next activity. 2. I have to remind them to listen carefully to the audio because they need to solve a more detailed exercise. If they need it I will play the audio twice. 3. Ss will solve the exercise 4 from page 56 of the coursebook (Navigate Advanced C1). I will give them one slide (from Google Slides) per student with his/her name on it. 2. The Ss will have to complete the missing words in each sentence (fill in the gaps). Ss will have access to the audio script. 3. Once they are finished with the exercise they will do a peer feedback to check on their answers. 4. After that, they will listen to audio 6.1 again to check their answers in an open class feedback. If they need help with the text they can read it from a link in the chat box. Note: The students can check their answers with the audio script too given by the teacher by sharing the screen on Zoom.
Discussion: The Risks of Online Gaming 1. Ss will come up with a list of Pros (Benefits) and Cons (Risks) while playing online games (2-3 minutes). 2. Then, I will write this list on a slide. Afterwards, the Ss will be asked to get in pairs and discuss for 7 minutes about the benefits and the risks of online gaming. 3. This is a preemptive list of benefits and risks of online gaming in case the students need some help. -Benefits: stress relief, it's fun, social connection, mental sharpness, helping in scientific research. -Risks: addiction, sleep deprivation, problems with mental health, cyberbullying, phisical problems. 4. To end the class, I will conduct a feedback on the task and give the students delayed error correction (DEC).
