Main Aims

  • Students learn how to say what people are wearing

Subsidiary Aims

  • fun + games

Procedure

Set context (4-6 minutes) • get kids interested in clothes

if you want you can come to class dressed in funny clothes (or have at least one fun article of clothing to display). Start with, "What am I wearing?" Then play the song/video.

Vocab (8-10 minutes) • introduce new words

As you drill the vocab, drill by what the students are wearing. "If you're wearing a skirt, say skirt", "If you're wearing striped clothes, say striped." Obviously this will not work for all the clothes, but you can still do, "If you're wearing red, say, he's wearing a red tie" for example.

Controlled practice (10-12 minutes) • get students to recognise the vocab

Play "if you're wearing". Say, "If you're wearing _____, run to the front" The kid who gets to the front first is the winner. You can print out stickers or some such to give out for this. Do plenty of rounds (and vary it up between front and back so the kids in the back get a chance) and then let a few students be the person to call out "if you're wearing".

Freer practice (10-12 minutes) • students use the vocab to play a game

Put students into small groups. Give each group a pair of cut out people (shuffled). They must ask each other, "do you have a boy/girl wearing..." (it's like Go Fish). Whoever collects the most pairs wins! (And then they do it again)
